BAR UNITY is a reggae bar located in Kushiro, Hokkaido, open since 1995. With reggae at its core — alongside hip-hop, soul, R&B and more — it’s a relaxed spot where you can enjoy a drink to good music, and solo visitors are always welcome.

Of course we’ve got cocktails and whisky, but we’re happy to suggest something to match whatever mood you’re in.

Master Keiichi
I’ve been running BAR UNITY in Kushiro’s Sakae-machi neighborhood since 1995.
It’s been over 30 years since I opened this place. It’s a small 10-seat counter bar, which means I get to spend real time with each guest, chatting slowly over drinks and music.
The music here is mostly reggae, with plenty of soul, hip-hop, and jazz mixed in. I fell hard for reggae when I was young, and I’ve lived alongside this music ever since. I really enjoy the moment when a guest says, “Oh, I like this song” — that kind of small connection is what keeps me going.
On my days off, I’m usually fishing, foraging for wild vegetables in the mountains, or out driving my Jimny somewhere in Hokkaido. I love the sea and the mountains — and yakiniku, too. This bar is really just an extension of that life in Kushiro.
You don’t need to know anything about reggae, and you don’t need company — tourists are always welcome to stop in on a whim. Feel free to say hello across the counter.
